Come to the public inquiry
Bristol City Council and developers Deeley Freed are still intent on building on our green space. In a bid to stop this, Castle Park User Group have applied to the council to register Castle Park as a Town Green. If successful, it will be permanently protected from development. The council and the developers constitute the main objectors to the proposal, and the issue is going to a public inquiry

Castle Park Castle Park lies in the centre of Bristol and is a haven for city centre workers and shoppers alike. It is one of the few open green spaces in the city centre and is the only green space adjacent to the floating harbour. The Bristol to Bath cycle path runs through the park and is used extensively by walkers, runners and cyclists. Castle Park Users Group was formed in 2006 when development proposals were unveiled to develop on up to 25% of the existing parkland. The user group has effectively opposed the development proposals to date with a 6,495 signatures petition being presented to the council. Many thanks go to all who have helped so far. |

Previous status The original proposals for development have gone ‘back to the drawing board’ and new plans are now under development. There has been no public information available since the review was announced in October 2007. The User Group expects that the new proposals when revealed will still include development on valuable areas of Castle Park. The User Group has therefore lodged an application to register Castle Park as a Town Green. If successful this would ensure that the park is not built on. Notices are currently posted in the park with a deadline of 18th April for objections to be received by the council. |
